Deciduous Shade
Shade for all Seasons
Deciduous shade (vegetation
that looses its leaves in winter
)
such as the fast growing,
local-weather adapted vines
pictured to the right are the most
cost effective energy saving tool
at a homeowners disposal. Shade
is used rather than use air
conditioning to remove the
summer heat energy gained
directly from the sun. In addition,
by planting vegetation that loose
their leaves during the winter,
they allow a measure of free
infrared heat during the
wintertime, too.
.

Four week old heat adapted vines planted
on the southwest corner of our house. Note
sun screen on the window to reject infrared,
as well. Just out of sight are young shade
trees planted along the west side of this
house (on the far side of the gate).
