| -Electric Powered Vehicles "EV's" |
Recently, a guest on late night Television, a stand up comic wanabe, was making a fool of
himself by making fun of electric vehicles that charge from the electric grid. He inferred that
no one, especially environmentally sensitive types who own electric vehicles, notices that
electricity is made mostly from coal fired generators which are decided contributors of green
house gases and the poisonous substances, sulfur dioxide and mercury, duhhh.
.
His observation is accurate, but did not show a glimmer of intelligence by also noting that
environmentally astute electric powered and compressed air powered urban vehicle owners
for the most part also know to charge their batteries or for compressed air powered cars to
operate their electric compressors, ONLY at night when the power grids' generators are
just at idle capacity, taking advantage of the fact that it would take 20 million electric
vehicles charging at night JUST to usefully USE the wasted coal it takes to keep their coal
fired steam boiler firebricks hot enough to avoid cracking during idle periods when there is
not enough load to keep them heated up to their white-hot operational temperatures at
which they need to be maintained.

The point here is to state that electric and compressed air powered vehicles in their millions,
that charge their batteries or fill their reserve tanks with air at night when most of us sleep,
would remove an operational overhead expense we all pay for in our electric rates,
without needing any additional coal fired power plants to be built to serve this
transportation option.
